Games on 1/27:

It was an exciting Friday night as the Lady Highlanders took on El Camino Real in the first game of the second half of league play! The F/S (15-1, 5-0 League) started the night off with a big 46-25 victory. The JV team (18-1, 5-1 League) followed it up with a win of their own, a 52-42 triumph. Varsity (19-2, 5-1 League) finished the night strong with an impressive 52-48 win to move into to a tie for 1st in the West Valley League. For the Varsity, Emily Mitchell led the way with 17 points, 5 assists, and 4 steals. Janelle Jiron had 10 points, 6 rebounds, and took 3 huge charges! Angel Castro chipped in with 10 points and 4 rebounds off the bench, while Sarah Miranda added 4 points and 9 rebounds off the bench. The Lady Highlanders hit the court next on Wednesday (2/1) at Birmingham HS."

Week of 12/5:
The Varsity hit the floor again this week, playing 9 games in past 12 days. It was another successful week that saw the Varsity go 4-1, en route to 3rd place at the Burroughs Magnolia-Optimist Tournament (Gold Division). The following are the results from this week's games:

The girls basketball program kicked off the season with the annual Alumni Game. Many alumni players showed up to play (and watch!) this year. They gave the Varsity team a great game, but the Varsity emerged victorious with a big 67-48 win!! The following are the stats from the game:

Future Stars Showcase Game (June 5, 2016):
Congratulations to rising seniors Marlene Salazar and Kaitlin Eells and rising juniors Emily Mitchell and Sarah Miranda on being selected to participate in the Future Stars Showcase. The game featured top players from the area. The athletes played on the East squad, losing a close game 69-79. All of our players contributed well during the game. The following are their stats from the game:

Congratulations to our seniors, Dayna Tanaka and Ivy Nguyen, on their graduation! They were an integral part of our program's success this year and will be missed tremendously. Both student-athletes will continue their academic and athletic careers at the college level.

Game on March 9 (1st Round, CIF D1 State Playoffs): The Lady Highlanders season came to an end following a 1st round state playoff defeat. The girls hit the road to travel to Vista Murrieta HS for their contest. The team battled tough and trailed 34-36 at halftime, but a big 3rd quarter run by Vista Murrieta led to a 60-82 loss. Ivy Nguyen led the way with 21 points, hitting 7 big three pointers. Emily Mitchell contributed 19 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 steals. Dayna Tanaka added 10 points and 8 assists, while Janelle Jiron pitched in with 3 points and a team leading 6 rebounds. It was a great season for the Highlanders, who finished with a 22-8 record on the season.

State Playoffs Announcement (March 6): The Lady Highlanders have earned the #13 seed in the CIF Division 1 State Playoffs. We will travel to Vista Murrieta HS to take on the #4 seeded Broncos. The game will start at 7:00pm on Wednesday, March 9.
Game on March 3 (Consolation Finals, LA City Section Open Division Playoffs):
The Lady Highlander suffered a 33-46 setback in the consolation finals of the Open Division playoffs in their contest with Fairfax HS. Marlene Salazar led the way with 8 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 steals. Emily Mitchell added 7 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 steals. Dayna Tanaka had 6 points, while Cristian Patron came off the bench to score 5 points.

The Highlanders will next take the floor in the CIF Division 1 State Playoffs starting next Wednesday, March 9.

Game on March 1 (Consolation Semifinals, LA City Section Open Division Playoffs):
The Lady Highlanders bounced back and beat a tough Carson team 60-39 in the Open Division Consolation Semifinals. It was a total team effort!! Dayna Tanaka led the way with 15 points and 7 assists. Ivy Nguyen had 9 points on three 3-pointers, while Sarah Miranda and Cristian Patron each had 8 points. Emily Mitchell had 7 points, 7 assists, and 3 steals. Marlene Salazar added 6 points and 7 rebounds. Kaitlin Eells had 7 points and Janelle Jiron contributed with 7 rebounds and 3 assists.

The Varsity (22-6) will next hit the floor in the Open Division Consolation Finals against Fairfax HS on Thursday, March 3, at 7:00pm @ GHCHS!

Game on February 27 (Semifinals, LA City Section Open Division Playoffs):
The Lady Highlander suffered a tough 38-43 loss to El Camino Real in the Open Division Semifinals at Roybal HS. It was a back and forth game the whole way with many lead changes. Emily Mitchell led the way with 11 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 assists. Marlene Salazar added 8 points and 10 rebounds, while Sarah Miranda chipped in with 6 points and 7 rebounds. Dayna Tanaka contributed 6 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists.

The Varsity will now play in the Consolation Semifinals Tuesday, March 1, against Carson HS at GHCHS. The game will start at 7:00pm.

Game on February 19 (1st Round, LA City Section Open Division Playoffs):
The #1 seeded Lady Highlanders won their 1st round playoff match against #8 Middle College 60-45! Sarah Miranda led the way with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Marlene Salazar added 10 points and 14 rebounds. Emily Mitchell had 12 assists and 6 rebounds. Angel Castro and Cristian Patron came off the bench to score 10 points and 8 points, respectively.

The #1 Highlanders will next face #4 El Camino Real on Saturday, February 27, at Royal Learning Center in a semifinals matchup. The game will tip off at 4:00pm. It will be broadcast live on TWCSportsChannel.com.


Varsity Playoffs:
The Varsity will continue on in the LA City Section Open Division playoffs after being selected as the #1 seed yesterday! The team will face Middle College this Friday (2/19) @ GHCHS, at 7:00pm. Let's pack the house to show our support!!

It was a great Senior Night, as the gym was filled with balloons and posters to honor our two seniors, Dayna Tanaka and Ivy Nguyen. The program completed a sweep of Cleveland HS on the last day of league play. The F/S started off the afternoon with a big 54-12 win. JV continued the trend and won 50-24. The Varsity (20-5, 9-1 League) finished the job with a 64-29 victory. For the Varsity, Marlene Salazar led the way with 13 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 steals. Ivy Nguyen had 9 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 4 steals. Sarah Miranda contributed with 8 points and 10 rebounds. Emily Mitchell added 7 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals, while Kaitlin Eells had 7 points, 3 assists, and 3 steals. Dayna Tanaka finished with 7 points.

The F/S finished the season 15-3 overall and 7-1 in league play, good for a share of the West Valley League title!! The JV finished the year 18-5 overall and 8-2 in league, good for second place. Along the way, they were the Burbank Tournament champions! Congratulations to both teams on their successful seasons!

Games on February 10:
It was another great day for the Lady Highlanders. Both the JV and Varsity win their contests at Chatsworth HS. The JV (17-5, 7-2 League) started off the afternoon with a big 65-3 win. The Varsity tried to keep pace and won 73-26. For the Varsity (19-5, 8-1 League), Cristian Patron led the way with 14 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 steals. Dayna Tanaka added 12 points, 6 assists, and 5 steals, while Marlene Salazar chipped in with 10 points. Emily Mitchell had a near triple-double effort with 8 points, 9 assists, and 8 steals. Sarah Miranda contributed with 7 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 blocks. The program hits the floor for the final time in league play Friday at home vs. Cleveland HS. We will honor our two seniors, Dayna Tanaka and Ivy Nguyen, with a Senior Night ceremony before the Varsity game!

Games on February 5:
It was another successful night for the Lady Highlanders, as we completed a program sweep at Taft HS. The F/S (14-3, 7-1 League) started off the day with a big 48-6 win. The JV (16-5, 6-2 League) won their contest 56-27. The Varsity (18-5, 7-1 League) finished the job with a 53-30 victory. For the Varsity, Marlene Salazar led the way with 9 points and 11 rebounds. Dayna Tanaka added 9 points and 3 assists. Ivy Nguyen contributed 8 points and 4 rebounds, while Sarah Miranda chipped in with 8 points and 7 rebounds. Janelle Jiron had 7 points and 6 rebounds off the bench! The program will head to Chatsworth HS next Wednesday where the JV and Varsity will play afternoon contests at 2:30 and 4:00pm, respectively. This will be the final week of league play for all three levels.


Games on February 3:
It was a great day for the Lady Highlanders, as all three levels defeated Birmingham HS at home. The F/S kicked off the afternoon with a big 44-12 win. The JVs followed suit and won 55-41. The Varsity finished the job with a nice 64-16 victory. It was a great team effort, as all nine players scored and had at least one steal! Ivy Nguyen led the way with 15 points on five 3-pointers. Emily Mitchell added 11 points and 5 rebounds, while Angel Castro chipped in with 8 points. Sarah Miranda contributed with 8 points and 12 rebounds, while Dayna Tanaka did it all with 4 points, 4 rebounds, 7 assists, and 4 steals. The program will travel to Taft HS on Friday to continue league play.

Games on January 29:
It was a night full of emotion for the Lady Highlanders at El Camino Real on Friday night. The F/S (12-3, 4-1 League) started the night off with close game, ultimately losing 44-50. The JV (14-5, 4-2 League) also suffered a setback, losing 36-62. The Varsity (16-5, 5-1 League), however, turned the night around by pulling off one of the most improbable victories against the league rival. Down 29-43 with just over two minutes to play, the team put together an epic 18-3 rally en route to a HUGE 47-46 win. Emily Mitchell hit the game winning 3-pointer with 17 seconds to play! This win propelled the team into a tie for first place with El Camino Real. For the Varsity, Emily Mitchell led the way with 12 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and 4 steals. Ivy Nguyen chipped in with 12 points, hitting three 4th quarter 3-pointers. Sarah Miranda contributed with 8 points and 4 rebounds, while Marlene Salazar had 6 points, 11 rebounds, and 3 steals. Kaitlin Eells added 6 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists off the bench. Dayna Tanaka helped out with 3 points and 7 rebounds.

The JV(14-4, 4-1 League) followed with a nice 52-24 win of their own. The Varsity (15-5, 4-1 League) capped off the afternoon with a huge 61-24 win. For the Varsity, Marlene Salazar led the way with 12 points and 9 rebounds. Kaitlin Eells chipped in with 11 points, while Ivy Nguyen added 10 points. Dayna Tanaka contributed with 9 points and 5 assists, while Emily Mitchell had 8 points and 6 assists. Sarah Miranda did a little bit of everything producing 2 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 steals. Great job ladies!! The program will head to El Camino Real this Friday night, where all three levels will be competing for 1st place in league.


Games on January 22:
The Girls Basketball program completed another program sweep, this time taking down Chatsworth HS on Friday night. The JVs (13-4, 3-1 League) kicked off the night with a big 77-16 win. The Varsity (14-5, 3-1 League) finished the job with a 61-26 victory. Junior Angel Castro led the attack with 17 points and 6 rebounds off the bench. Ivy Nguyen contributed 11 points and 4 steals, while Marlene Salazar added 10 points and 6 rebounds. Emily Mitchell filled up the stat sheet with 10 points, 5 assists, and 5 steals. Sarah Miranda led the team with 11 rebounds and Dayna Tanaka led with 6 assists. The Lady Highlanders next play at Cleveland HS on Wednesday afternoon!


Games on January 20:
The girls basketball program completed their third straight program sweep, with all three levels defeating Taft HS. The F/S (11-2, 3-0) kicked off the afternoon with a big 52-5 victory. The JV (12-4, 2-1) also came up with a big win, defeating Taft 55-14. The Varsity (13-5, 2-1) finished the job with a convincing 52-32 win. Ivy Nguyen led the way with 13 points and 5 rebounds, knocking down four 3-pointers! Sarah Miranda added 9 points and 11 rebounds, while Emily Mitchell chipped in with 8 points and 8 assists. Kaitlin Eells scored 8 points and had 5 rebounds. The JV and Varsity both hit the floor next with home games Friday (1/22) night against Chatsworth HS. Come out and support you GHCHS Lady Highlanders!!


January 16:
On Saturday, the Lady Highlanders faced off with Palm Desert HS in their final non-league contests of the season. It was a special day, where Coach Honig went head to head with a childhood friend Adam Emmer, who is also the son of Assistant Coach Sheldon Emmer. It was a great day for the Lady Highlanders, as they completed a program sweep of Palm Desert. The F/S started off the day with a 58-7 victory. The JVs were up next and defeated Palm Desert 72-10. The Varsity finished the job in Coach Honig's 50th career win with a big 57-12 win! Ivy Nguyen led the way with 14 points, 4 assists, and 4 steals. Dayna Tanaka added 8 points and 4 rebounds, while Sarah Miranda chipped in with 7 points and 11 rebounds. Brianna Torres had 7 points and 4 assists. Emily Mitchell and Kaitlin Eells both added 7 points. Great job ladies! The teams next hit the floor Wednesday at home in league contests with Taft HS.

January 15:
On Friday night, the Lady Highlanders completed their first league sweep of the season! The F/S kicked off the night with a big 41-12 win! The JVs bounced back from Wednesday's setback with a nice 45-30 win of their own! The Varsity also bounced back well and beat Birmingham in convincing fashion with a 51-19 victory! Ivy Nguyen had 11 points, while Kaitlin Eells added 10 points and 7 rebounds. Emily Mitchell chipped in with 9 points and 4 assists. Sarah Miranda added 6 points, 10 rebounds, and 3 blocks. Janelle Jiron had 6 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 blocks. Great team effort ladies!!


January 13:
The league openers against El Camino Real proved to be tough for the program. The F/S opened up the evening with a big 40-38 win over ECR!! The JV had a tough game, falling 50-61. The Varsity also had a tough game, as they lost 23-45, shooting 9-61 from the field. For the Lady Highlanders, Emily Mitchell led the way with 7 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 steals. Marlene Salazar contributed 5 points and 8 rebounds, while Kaitlin Eells added 4 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists.


January 5-9:
On Saturday, January 9, the Varsity squad wrapped up their third and final tournament of the season with another 2nd place finish. The girls played hard and fought until the end and should be proud of their efforts. It was our third consecutive tournament championship game, which was a great accomplishment in itself. The girls basketball program completed a sweep at Hart HS. The F/S started off the morning with a 34-22 victory. The JVs were up next and rolled to a 71-34 win! The Varsity finished the job with a big 49-38 win. Ivy Nguyen led the way with 12 points, while Marlene Salazar chipped in 10 points and 9 rebounds. Sarah Miranda added 8 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 blocks. Emily Mitchell added 7 points and 5 assists. Great job ladies!


December 26-30:
It was a busy few days between Christmas and New Years, as all three levels participated in tournaments. The F/S played in the Burroughs Tournaments and finished in 3rd place! The JV played in the Moorpark Tournament and finished in 3rd place, as well! The Varsity squad took a road trip up to the Bay Area and played in the Eastside Prep Coaches vs. Cancer Classic in Palo Alto, CA. They played well defeating El Camino (So. SF) and Hanford en route to a tough championship game matchup with Menlo-Atherton HS. The Varsity fell 36-56 in the final game, but had a great tournament overall. December 22:
All three levels played their home openers against Valencia in non-league contests Tuesday evening. The F/S started off the night with a big 64-14 victory. The JVs played next and beat Valencia for the second time in four days with a 55-32 win. The #28 in the state ranked Varsity finished off the night with a tough loss to the #19 ranked Valencia in a 43-61 setback. The Varsity cut the deficit to five points to end the third, but that's the closest they got. Kaitlin Eells led the way with 15 points, while Dayna Tanaka added 8 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists. Cristian Patron and Marlene Salazar led the rebounding efforts with 7 rebounds and 6 rebounds, respectively. The Varsity next hits the floor in Palo Alto, CA, for the Eastside Prep Coaches vs. Cancer Classic on Monday, December 28.




December 19:
The JV and F/S teams finished up the Burbank Tournament this weekend by both playing in the championship games! The JVs finished the tournament with a 3-0 record and were crowned tournament champions following their 45-20 victory over Valencia. The F/S finished the weekend with a 2-1 record and lost a tough battle in the championship game 45-54 against El Camino Real. Congratulations to both groups for a successful tournament!




December 7-12:
The Varsity squad had a great showing at the Burroughs Tournament, going 4-1 against some of the top teams in the area. The team came in 2nd place in the very competitive Gold Division (best finish in school history at this tournament!), losing to Sierra Canyon in the championship game on Saturday night 46-53. Wednesday, November 25:
The Varsity won the Alumni Game in a thrilling 52-46 overtime victory. Emily Mitchell (SO) led the way with 17 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists, and 4 steals. Kaitlin Eells (JR) chipped in with 10 points (5 points in OT!) and 6 rebounds, while Marlene Salazar (JR) contributed with 9 points and 8 rebounds. Dayna Tanaka (SR) added 6 points and 6 rebounds. For the Alumni, Danielle Ward ('13) and Ashley Samson ('10) led the way with 8 points each. Thanks to all the alumni who came back to play/support this year's team!!




GHCHS Girls Basketball Alumni Game
The GHCHS Girls Basketball Alumni Game will take place on Wednesday, November 25, at 5:30pm in the Main Gym. "Battle of the Valley" All Star Event:
Congratulations to Jessica Cuadra and Coach Jared Honig on being selected to participate in the Battle of the Valley All-Star Event. The event took place on May 9, at Valley College, and featured many of the top seniors in the area!



"Senior Night in the Valley" All-Star Game:
Congratulations to Jessica Cuadra and Esther Mensah on their selection to the East squad for the "Senior Night in the Valley" All-Star event that took place on April 11 at St. Genevieve HS! They both played well in their team's 71-76 loss. It was a fun game featuring the top players in the area.

Both players will be back in action for the "Battle of the Valley" All-Star game, coached by Coach Jared Honig, on May 9 (5:30 pm at Valley College).



Game on Friday, February 27:
The Lady Highlanders season came to an end with a 41-58 loss in their Open Division consolation game against University HS. It was the end to a very successful season for the team! Esther Mensah led the way with 13 points and 7 rebounds. Jessica Cuadra added 11 points, while Marlene Salazar chipped in with 4 points and a team leading 9 rebounds. Dayna Tanaka had a team leading 7 assists. Thanks for all the support this season!!


Game on Friday, February 20:
In the 1st round of the City Section Open Division playoffs, the #4 seed Lady Highlanders suffered a tough 46-52 loss in front of the home crowd against the #5 seed View Park HS. Esther Mensah led the way with 14 points and 9 rebounds. Jessica Cuadra added 9 points and Marlena Perkins had 7 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals. Dayan Tanaka contributed 7 points, while Marlene Salazar had 15 rebounds.

The girls will now play in the consolation bracket of the Open Division. Their next game is on Friday (2/27) at home against University HS, at 7:00pm.


Games on Friday, February 13:
It was an exciting last night of league play and Senior Night on Friday! It was also a night where all three levels secured undefeated (10-0) West Valley League Championships!! The F/S started the night with a 38-26 victory. The JV was up next and had a tough fought 42-37 win. The Varsity capped off the night with a 60-47 victory. Marlene Salazar had a dominating 20 point and 16 rebound performance to lead the way. Jessica Cuadra added 15 points and Marlena Perkins contributed with 14 points. Congratulations to all the seniors and their families on an amazing night!!


Games on Wednesday, February 11:
It was the 9th consecutive program sweep for the Lady Highlanders against Cleveland. The F/S won 46-19. The JV continued the trend with a 49-13 win. The Varsity finished up the afternoon with a big 68-28 win. Jessica Cuadra led the way with 14 points and Arevik Moughalian added 12 points. Marlena Perkins had 8 points and 7 rebounds, while Emily Mitchell contributed with 7 points and 7 assists.


Games on Friday, February 6:
The Lady Highlanders completed their 8th straight program sweep at Chatsworth. The F/S started off the afternoon with a big 51-6 victory. The JV had a dominating 70-9 performance. The Varsity completed the sweep with a 65-47 win. Esther Mensah led the way with 17 points. Janette Mensah had 15 points and 12 rebounds, and Jessica Cuadra chipped in with 12 points and 6 rebounds.


Games on Wednesday, February 4:
It was the seventh consecutive league program sweep for the Lady Highlanders at Taft. The F/S won 38-14. The JV had a big 50-12 victory. The Varsity won 29-21. Esther Mensah had 12 points and 7 rebounds, while Jessica Cuadra contributed 4 points and 9 rebounds.


Games on Friday, January 30:
It was a program sweep for the Lady Highlanders against Birmingham on Friday night. The F/S started the evening with a 53-8 victory. The JV was up next and won 49-28. The Varsity had a big 50-48 win (in OT). Esther Mensah led the way with 12 points, while Jessica Cuadra chipped in 11 points and Dayna Tanaka had 10 points.


Games on Wednesday, January 28:
At El Camino Real Charter, the Lady Highlanders completed their 5th consecutive sweep in league play! The F/S started the night off strong with a big 48-10 victory. The JV had a nice 47-41 comeback victory. The Varsity ended the night with a big 36-32 win!! Dayna Tanaka led the way with 10 points, while Jessica Cuadra added 9 points (all in the 4th quarter) and 7 rebounds. Esther Mensah chipped in with 8 points and 5 rebounds, and Lauren Doll had 4 points and 7 rebounds. All three teams are now in sole position of 1st place with 5-0 records after the first round of league play!


Games on Friday, January 23:
At Cleveland HS, the Lady Highlanders completed another 3-game sweep! The F/S kicked it off with big 58-18 win. The JV were up next and won 58-17. The Varsity won a close 37-32 contest! Esther Mensah led the way with 18 points and 7 rebounds, while Marlene Salazar added 6 points and 6 rebounds!


Games on Wednesday, January 21:
The Lady Highlanders were very successful at home as all three levels dominated Chatsworth. The F/S team started the afternoon with a 60-6 victory. The JVs followed that up with a 63-11 win. The Varsity completed the sweep with a big 54-11 win! Esther Mensah led the team with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Janette Mensah contributed 8 points and 8 rebounds, while Marlene Salazar added 6 points and 8 rebounds!


Games on Monday, January 19:
The JV and Varsity both were invited to compete in the MLK Day War on the Floor Showcase at Thousand Oaks HS. Both teams faced Newbury Park. The JV started off the morning with a big 48-11 victory. The Varsity suffered a 46-55 defeat. Esther Mensah and Emily Mitchell both contributed 11 points and Janette Mensah chipped in with 10 points and 7 rebounds off the bench.


Games on Friday, January 16:
It was an exciting home opener for the GHCHS Girls Basketball program, as we completed a sweep of Taft HS. The F/S started off the afternoon with a 53-13 victory. The JV were up next and won 55-3. The Varsity completed the sweep with a big 56-17 victory. Freshman Janette Mensah led the way with 19 points and 9 rebounds and Arevik Moughalian contributed 9 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals.


Games on Wednesday, January 14:
In the first league contests of the season, the GHCHS Girls Basketball completed a sweep of Birmingham HS. The F/S won 50-6, the JV won 68-32, and the Varsity completed the sweep with a 50-40 victory. For the Varsity, freshman Emily Mitchell led the way with 11 points and 5 assists, while Lauren Doll added 8 points and 11 rebounds. Esther Mensah and Jessica Cuadra each chipped in 9 points.


December 9-13 -- The Varsity team competed in the Burroughs tournament. The girls finished with a 3-2 record. The following are the results:

  • Wednesday (12/10): L, 33-34 (vs. Agoura)
  • Thursday (12/11): L, 33-54 (vs. Burroughs)

December 8-10 -- The JV team competed in the Panorama tournament. They finished with a record of 3-0 and won the championship!! The following are the results:
  • Monday (12/8): W, 69-20 (vs. Sylmar)
  • Tuesday (12/9): W, 66-9 (vs. Chatsworth)
  • Wednesday (12/10): W 63-16 (vs. Birmingham, Championship Game)

December 3-6 -- The Varsity team competed in the McDonald's Classic, in El Paso, Texas. The team finished in 4th place with a 1-3 record. The competition was tough. Here are the results from each game:

November 26 -- The Varsity defeated the alumni team 50-31. It was a fun event for all who participated. Thanks to all the alumni who came back to play against the current team!
