GHC DECA raises $11,080 for Make-A-Wish
Our GHC DECA chapter raised $11,080 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation this holiday season. Chapter members collected holiday letters for the Macy’s Believe campaign that raises money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Believe letter writers can compose a letter to Santa or communicate a holiday wish list to a parent or describe a character they believe grants wishes in the holiday season. As an alternate approach, one can write a story describing something they believe in and why. Small children are allowed to draw a picture of something that was magical to them.
The team spread the word to GHC teachers, coaches, staff and fellow students, but they did not stop at the school’s fences. Students solicited letters from local middle and elementary schools, religious institutions, public libraries, senior centers, scout troops and club sport teams. Many students had their families write letters at their Thanksgiving celebrations. Our GHC DECA chapter thanks the many GHC parents, teachers, staff and administrators who have supported the Holiday Letter Campaign the past three years. The entire school community should take pride in these results.
Seniors Valeria Robles and Evelyn Jauregui led the Holiday Letter Campaign to success this year. On Friday December 9, 2016, our GHC DECA chapter delivered 5,540 letters to Macy’s Northridge store who will donate $2 to Make-A-Wish for each letter. Junior Daniel Lopez collected 608 letters to earn top individual honors. Mr. Nelson's second period GBF Business Statistics class collected 1,544 letters to win the class competition. Valeria and Evelyn shared the Holiday Letter Campaign with five other Southern California DECA chapters who collected another 1,000+ letters. Our philanthropy is set to spread even further next year. In total, GHC DECA has raised $28,128 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation in the past three years.
